QUESTION:  HOW DO I START MEDITATING?

How do I start meditating is a common question I get regularly. What is meditation?

Meditation is…Being in the present moment and focusing on what is present with you right now.

Being engaged with an awareness with a lack of judgment.

ANSWERS: START WHERE YOU ARE

So when we focus on being present, we are in a meditative state. In the fall and winter, I love to crochet. I can feel by body
relaxing as I get into the rhythm of the stitches. Many of us are doing “meditative” practices on a regular basis… a few are below:

  • Step outside (or by a window) and notice what you see and tune into your senses (sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch and sensations)
  • Sit in a chair and just notice your breath as it comes in and out of your nose
  • Walk and notice what is around you
  • Swim
  • Eat and focus only on your food
  • Knit
  • Crochet
  • Find a meditation on YouTube– I have plenty
  • Run
  • Dance
  • Observe nature
  • Garden
  • Use an APP – I like the Insight Timer APP – there are tons out there
  • Try a Continuing Education program at a local or online college

You can also find teachers and local places where you are if you prefer that type of instruction.

I’ve been meditating since the late 90’s…a long time. I still enjoy the practice and Yes, I still have thoughts running through my head. It’s part of the practice. Since August 30, 2018 I have hosted a LIVE DAILY Meditation practice on Facebook and now on my YouTube channel. Yes, that’s over 1190 meditation sessions…Whew!
